Known as one of the most iconic cultivars in the world of Wuyi Yancha (rock oolong), Rougui gets its name from its signature sharp and lingering cinnamon aroma. Grown in the core production area of Wuyishan, this tea is hand-picked from mature tea bushes aged 20 to 30 years, and meticulously charcoal-roasted using traditional techniques.

The dry leaves release an unmistakable fragrance that blends warm spice with floral and fruity notes. Upon infusion, it yields a bright orange-hued liquor with a full-bodied texture and intense, warming rock aroma (yan yun).

The taste is powerful, structured, and memorable—bold on the palate yet balanced with a smooth, refined finish. As the infusions progress, the tea transforms beautifully:

1st infusion: Light and bright orange-yellow liquor, clear cinnamon scent, thick mouthfeel.

2nd infusion: Orange-red hue, lush with cinnamon and ripe fruit aromas, bold yet smooth; the astringency quickly melts into sweetness.

3rd infusion: Rich and round, lingering floral spice and throat aroma intensify.

4th–6th infusions: Gradual softening of the spice, but mineral depth and warmth persist; a cozy sensation remains in the belly.

The leaf base is soft and vibrant, featuring the classic “red edges on green leaf” (三红七青), a hallmark of well-made yancha.

This is a tea for seasoned drinkers who appreciate complexity, energy, and long-lasting flavor. Whether steeped for multiple infusions or aged over time, Wuyi Rougui continues to impress with its clarity and depth.
